Q. I currently have a Hydromatic grinder pump Model # HPG200M2, 2HP, 230V, single phase installed in my septic pit that has quit working. I am assuming it was part of a package type system when the house was built. It's connected to a control panel Model # 63920-100-7. It has a three float on /off controller, which is also not working. Do you have any suggestion on what to replace this with? Eric, PA
A. When looking to replace a pump, determine what made the prior unit fail and ask yourself whether it was appropriate to the task it was operating in. In the case of a grinder pump, clogging is a red flag indicating that the old unit was not adequately configured to the demands of the application.
If the old unit expired after years of wear and tear and you simply want to replace it with a comparable model you can generally find a direct replacement in the Pump Products pump catalog based on the specifications of the prior unit. In the present example, Model # HPG200M2 is comparable to Liberty's LSG202M grinder pump; both are 2 HP, 230 V manual grinders rated for the same flow and head.
When replacing the control panel, look for a Single Pump Simplex Control Panel with a three float design by the same manufacturer. Brand consistency will increase your system's predictability and help to minimize service costs. Liberty's AE24H=4, AE Series Duplex Control Panel would be a suitable choice for the LSG202M grinder pump.
Pump Products staff are constantly approached by customers with chronic clogging issues. Synthetic products that don’t break down easily are flushed away and clog ordinary grinder pumps. If this is a problem, consider choosing a model specially designed for difficult wastewater applications.
Liberty Pumps' Omnivore is a high-performance grinder that provides maximum efficiency and grinding power in 2 HP unit. It's a good choice for residential sewage applications where difficult solids-handling ability is crucial.
